G: “I’ve nothing to say”
D: “You have many things”
G: “Well, nothing that’s not been said”
D: “Said by you, though. George”

If you’re reading this, you would be well aware of the indelible impact Stephen Sondheim and his work have had on musical theatre. For many of us, it runs much deeper — his work has influenced so many theatre artists in understanding life and re-falling in love with the artform during times of disillusionment.

Stephen Sondheim on Yellow Background

Steve’s work is the primary reason that the three of us became friends back in 2014, taking on the challenge of presenting A Little Night Music during our uni years. The bond we developed during that production was so intertwined with Sondheim that, 2 years later, when we decided to go out on our own as an independent theatre company, there was no question about what our debut production would be.

Working on our productions of Sondheim shows have been so unique — as we witnessed the way that actors and audiences connect with the material.

We will mourn the industry’s great loss, but will remain so grateful for all that we have gained. Our thoughts go out to all those who, like us, are feeling this news hit particularly hard. We will appreciate reading the many tributes to come, reminding us why Steve and his work is so important to many.

Love,
Rose, Alexander, and Conrad
